My parents live two hours from me. Just a few weeks ago, I visited my dad and we attended the Latin Mass together. I wore the headcovering and he just marveled. He can't believe it but he's thrilled!

Of course, years ago, this is all he saw in the church. All women wore a hat or a veil in church until the early 1960's. He can't believe younger people are returning to this practice. :-)Mary Rosehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04107504165449607702noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8781753636089506134.post-1200737167157659852008-05-30T14:53:00.000-04:002008-05-30T14:53:00.000-04:00How did your parents react when you began covering...How did your parents react when you began covering your head?Lucyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10832572614630264634noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8781753636089506134.post-17514092562959477782008-05-04T21:31:00.000-04:002008-05-04T21:31:00.000-04:00This is well written and said! I actually called another local Catholic bookstore and found they have some mantillas in stock and cost between $15-20.

BTW, your little daughter looked very pretty in hers. :-)Mary Rosehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04107504165449607702noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8781753636089506134.post-55558016270206289832008-05-02T09:44:00.000-04:002008-05-02T09:44:00.000-04:00Great thoughts here, and so true. It's not about being a woman or a man ~ it's about being a child of God, about showing humility and and reverence before Him in the Blessed Sacrament. In a way, I think we have "one up" on the men who don't have this reminder right there on their heads.
BTW: If you are even a tiny bit of a seamstress, it's very simple to make an inexpensive lace mantilla. The edges don't have to even be hemmed before you sew on the lace trim. It's just a small zig zag, and you choose the laces. Also, mantillas can still be found in thrift stores and online for very little money.Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16636115320397120406noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8781753636089506134.post-17846106955468333612008-05-02T07:29:00.000-04:002008-05-02T07:29:00.000-04:00adrienne, this has been a long journey for me. I just don't have many of them. I've never been a "hat" person although have admired hats on women always. However, they'll have to answer to God for their judgment.

I will probably choose scarves for now. I also would love a beautiful lacy mantilla but don't have the $$ for it at the moment. I also don't have too many hats! (Umm...I don't think a baseball cap would count...)
:-)Mary Rosehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04107504165449607702noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8781753636089506134.post-92094751394123312612008-05-01T16:39:00.000-04:002008-05-01T16:39:00.000-04:00especially as I approach Him in the Mass. When I see a girl I strongly disliked in school and I have on the mantilla, it's humbling. When I see my bossy tough ex-woman boss with a smirk on her face, it's humbling.

But then I remember why I do cover in the first place. To submit my will to God.

I do scarves quite a bit more than the mantilla, only because I don't really like my mantilla.
